Vaattsal Vyass chose it not as an obligation or an inheritance, but out of what he describes as a deep fascination with Indian percussion and the specific language the tabla speaks. Based in Vadodara, Gujarat, he has built his practice around rigorous classical training, and the entirely contemporary work of bringing that tradition to digital audiences.
His platform, Tabla Tales by Vaattsal, is where those two commitments meet. Through instrumental percussion covers, original compositions, and instructional content, Vaattsal has spent years translating what he has learned in practice rooms and performance spaces into a format that connects with listeners who feel something when they hear the tabla played well. That work, the patient, consistent act of content creation requires a different kind of discipline from performance, and Vaattsal has pursued both without letting either compromise the other.
The performance record is real and varied. As the founder and leader of Fusiona — The Band, a cross-genre collaborative ensemble, Vaattsal has performed at Paramarsh, one of the largest and most prominent national-level cultural festivals in Vadodara. He has appeared in a featured live set with Riwaaz Band at the Statue of Unity, Kevadia — one of India's most visited landmarks and a performance context that demands presence as much as precision. He has collaborated with Anahat Band, and has performed percussion sets across regional cultural festivals, institutional gatherings, and independent community music events across Gujarat and beyond. His work extends into theatre: he has composed background scores and live music for multiple theatre and drama productions, a discipline that asks a percussionist to serve narrative rather than showcase technique.
His connection to Gappu came through his own initiative. He reached out to the brand via social media as an independent digital percussion creator, and the collaboration that followed has centred on the NS 01 Cajon, an instrument he uses for digital music covers, instructional videos, and rhythmic arrangements on his platform. What he values in Gappu's products is the specific combination of accessible pricing and genuine tonal quality, alongside a design that integrates naturally into digital production setups. For an independent creator working without the infrastructure of a label or studio, that last quality is not minor, it is the difference between content that sounds professional and content that does not.
