What is Gappu?

Gappu is an Indian musical instrument brand based in Kolkata, West Bengal. Founded in 2018, we design and handcraft percussion instruments — including cajons, bongos, shakers, djembes, practice pads, and more — with the goal of bringing world-class sound quality to Indian musicians at accessible prices. Every instrument is Made in India and built in our own workshop.

Was Gappu on Shark Tank India?

Yes! Gappu appeared on Shark Tank India Season 5 (Episode 23). It was a proud moment for us and for handcrafted Indian instruments. If you haven't seen it yet, look us up — it tells the Gappu story far better than we could here.

Who are the founders of Gappu?

Gappu was co-founded by Anirban Bhattacharya and Pallab Ghosh. Both are passionate about music and about building a brand that genuinely serves Indian musicians — from students and hobbyists to touring professionals.

Are Gappu instruments endorsed by professional artists?

Yes. Gappu instruments are used and endorsed by a growing number of Indian artists and percussionists. Notable collaborators include internationally acclaimed drummer Manjunath NS and several prominent musicians from Northeast and South India. Is Gappu only for percussionists?

Percussion is our core, but our catalogue is expanding. Our instruments accessories lineup is on its way with guitar strings, amps and other instruments like harmonicas. What types of instruments does Gappu make?

What is a cajon and how do I play it?

A cajon (pronounced ka-KHON) is a box-shaped percussion instrument originating from Peru, played by sitting on it and striking the front plate (the tapa) with your hands. It produces bass tones when you hit the centre and bright snare-like tones near the edges. No drum kit? No problem! A Cajon is portable, versatile, and surprisingly powerful. Which Gappu cajon is right for me?

A quick guide: If you are a beginner or on a budget, start with NS 01 or Cratez (₹4,999). If you want portability for travel or jam sessions, the JamBox / Taal is ideal (compact, under ₹5,000). If you are a semi-professional wanting richer tone and a bold look the NS 02 is excellent (₹6,000). If you perform live or record professionally — explore our Premium Cajon range. What materials are Gappu instruments made from?

Our cajons are built with music-grade plywood bodies (typically 12mm) and premium front plates — maple tapa on most models, spruce on select variants. All hardware is screwed for durability. The JamBox uses a Toon front plate for a distinct tonal character. We prioritise materials that balance resonance, longevity, and sustainability

Can I adjust the snare on my Gappu cajon?

Yes, Gappu’s Adjustable Cajons feature an adjustable snare system. You can tighten or loosen the snares to control the brightness and buzz of the snare tone to suit your playing style. Instructions can be found in the product page.

Do you sell instrument bags or cases?

Yes, we offer cajon bags designed for protection and portability. They're sold separately and listed on our website under Accessories. Check your cajon's product page for the recommended bag size.

Orders and Payments

How do I place an order?

You can order directly from our website at gappu.co. Browse the catalogue, choose your product and variant (colour, model), add to cart, and checkout. We accept major debit/credit cards, UPI, net banking and partial cod.

Do you offer any discounts for first-time buyers?

Yes! Use the code GAPPUNEW at checkout for 5% off your first order. We also run a flat ₹799 off on orders above ₹4,499, look for the banner on our website. Subscribe to our newsletter for access to seasonal sales and exclusive offers.

Can I modify or cancel my order after placing it?

Cancellations can be requested within 24 hours of placing the order. Call us on 1800 833 8433 as soon as possible — we'll do our best to accommodate you, though we cannot guarantee cancellation once the order is packed for dispatch. Kindly mail full details of your order at support@gappu.co.

Can I use multiple discount codes on one order?

No, only one discount code can be applied per order. If you enter a second code, it will be automatically removed from the cart.

I placed an order but didn't receive a confirmation email. What should I do?

First, check your spam or promotions folder. If it's not there, email us at support@gappu.co after 24 hours with the name and mobile number used at checkout and we'll verify your order status and resend the confirmation.

Delivery related FAQ

Do you ship across India?

Yes, we ship to all serviceable pin codes across India. Gappu is particularly wellestablished in Northeast and South India, but we fulfil orders nationwide. If you're unsure whether we deliver to your location, enter your pin code at checkout to check availability.

How much does shipping cost?

Shipping is free on all orders — no minimum cart value required.

How long will my order take to arrive?

Standard orders are typically delivered within 15-21 business days from dispatch. Delivery timelines can vary slightly based on your location and courier availability, especially during festive periods.

How do I track my order?

Once your order is dispatched, you'll receive a tracking link via email or SMS/WhatsApp. You can use this link to monitor your shipment in real time. If you haven't received tracking details within 48 hours of your expected dispatch date, contact us at support@gappu.co.

Do you ship internationally?

Returns, Exchanges & Cancellations

What is Gappu's return policy?

We do not offer monetary refunds, exchanges are our primary resolution mechanism. We offer a 7-day replacement policy from the date of delivery. This means that if your product arrives damaged, defective, or significantly different from what was described, you can request an exchange within 7 days. Check the Return Policy for more information.

How do I initiate a return or exchange?

Email us at support@gappu.co within 7 days of receiving your order. Include your order number, a brief description of the issue, and clear photos of the product and packaging. Our team will review your request and respond within 2-3 business days.

What are the conditions for a valid exchange?

To be eligible for an exchange, the product must be unused, in its original condition, and returned in its original packaging. Instruments that have been played, modified, or are not in original packaging may not qualify. Exchanges are made for products in the same or higher price range; if you choose a lower-priced item, the difference in amount will not be refunded.

What if my instrument is damaged in transit?

Shipping damage is covered. If your instrument arrives damaged due to transit — cracked wood, broken snares, dented body — photograph it immediately before unpacking further and email us within 7 days. We'll arrange a replacement at no charge to you.

Can I return a product just because I changed my mind?

Our exchange policy covers damage and defects, not change of mind. We'd encourage you to read the product description, check the review section, and view all photos before purchasing. If you're unsure, our team is happy to advise before you buy — just reach out via Instagram DM or email.

Warranty Related FAQ

What warranty does my Gappu instrument come with?

All Gappu Premium cajons usually include a 1-Year Manufacturer Warranty covering material and workmanship defects, plus a 6-Month Manufacturer Warranty for our other cajons. Warranty coverage details vary by product; check your specific product page for full terms

What does the warranty cover and what doesn't it cover?

Covered: manufacturing defects, material failures under normal use, and structural issues arising from production. Not covered: damage from misuse, improper storage, accidental drops, exposure to excessive moisture or direct sunlight, unauthorised modifications, or normal wear and tear.

How do I claim warranty service?

Contact us at support@gappu.co with your order number, a description of the defect, and photos of the issue. We'll assess the claim and respond within 3 business days. Approved warranty claims result in a replacement part or unit, as applicable.

Care & Maintenance

How do I care for my Gappu cajon?

Store your cajon in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and humidity. Avoid leaving it in a closed vehicle or damp room. Wipe down the surface occasionally with a dry or slightly damp cloth, never use chemical cleaners. When transporting, use a cajon bag to protect the tapa and corners from impact.

My cajon's snare is buzzing too much. How do I fix it?

Excessive snare buzz is usually a matter of tension adjustment. Open the front panel access point and gently tighten the snare strings or cable. Be careful not to over-tighten it, a few small adjustments make a significant difference. If the problem persists, reach out to us and we may be able to walk you through it or assess a warranty claim. Please note that this method is exclusive to the Adjustable Cajons.

The front plate of my cajon feels loose. What should I do?

Check that all perimeter screws are tightened uniformly. Loose screws are the most common cause. Use a standard Allen key and go around the tapa in a star pattern to ensure even tension. If tightening doesn't resolve the issue within your warranty period, contact us.

Is it okay to leave my instrument in a car or outdoors?

No. Extreme heat (like inside a parked car in summer) and humidity can cause the wood to warp or the glue joints to weaken. Always transport your instrument in a bag and store it indoors at room temperature.

Wholesale, bulk orders and custom instruments

Can I order in bulk for my music school or institution?

Yes. We welcome bulk orders from music schools, colleges, coaching institutes, event companies, and retailers. Bulk pricing and terms are available — email us at support@gappu.co with your requirements, expected quantity, and delivery timeline and we'll get back to you with a quote.

Do you offer custom-branded or personalised instruments?

We do handle select customisation requests — for example, corporate gifting with branding on the tapa, or custom finishes for artist endorsements. Contact us with your brief and we'll assess feasibility, pricing, and lead time on a case-by-case basis. Only for orders with a minimum order quantity of 50.

Are you open to retail or distribution partnerships?
