Sambit Chatterjee grew up hearing the tabla the way most children grow up hearing conversation, it was simply part of the texture of home. His father, Pandit Subhen Chatterjee, is a Grammy-nominated tabla maestro whose work has taken Indian classical percussion to stages around the world. For Sambit, that inheritance was never a burden. It was a launchpad.

Classical training gives him the vocabulary, but he has spent his professional life writing in dialects that would surprise a purist. He has toured with aswekeepsearching, one of India's most critically respected post-rock bands, a genre built on atmosphere and dynamics, where the percussionist's role is to anchor without dominating. He has worked with Karma – Bandish Fusion, which sits at the intersection of Hindustani classical and contemporary production. He has shared stages with DIVINE, the Mumbai rapper whose work sits at the heart of India's street-level hip-hop movement. And he has played alongside Mohini Dey, the bass prodigy whose technical command has drawn comparisons to players twice her age. 

The festival circuit has also become familiar ground. Sambit has performed at NH7 Weekender, the annual touring festival that has done more than almost any other platform to build audiences for independent Indian music. He has shared a stage with Katy Perry at the OnePlus Music Festival. An event that underscored just how fluidly he moves between scenes and scales of performance.

His relationship with Gappu runs deeper than endorsement. Sambit serves as the brand's official Brand Ambassador, a role that reflects genuine alignment between his values and the brand's.
